6 Expert Packing Tips

There’s no doubt that the moving process can be extremely stressful for most people. However, with the right packing techniques, you can make the process much smoother. At DA Moving, we’ve seen it all, and we want to share our expert packing tips to help you prepare for your big move. Whether you’re downsizing, relocating for a job, or just changing your scenery, these strategies will save you time, effort, and headaches.

1. Start Early

One of the best ways to reduce moving stress is to start packing well in advance. Begin with items you use less frequently, like seasonal clothing or holiday decorations. This way, you can tackle your packing gradually rather than cramming it all into the last few days.

2. Gather the Right Supplies

Before you start packing, ensure you have all the necessary supplies. Here’s a quick checklist:

  • Sturdy boxes of various sizes
  • Packing tape
  • Bubble wrap or packing paper
  • Markers for labeling
  • Scissors

3. Declutter Before You Pack

Moving is the perfect opportunity to declutter your space. Go through each room and decide what you really want to keep. Donate, sell, or discard items you no longer need. Not only will this lighten your load, but it will also help you start fresh in your new home.

4. Use Proper Packing Techniques

  • Pack Room by Room: Focus on one room at a time to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Label each box with the room it belongs to and a brief description of its contents.
  • Wrap Fragile Items: Use bubble wrap or packing paper to protect fragile items. Consider double-boxing especially delicate pieces for added security.
  • Fill Empty Spaces: Use clothing, towels, or packing paper to fill empty spaces in boxes. This prevents items from shifting during transit.
  • Disassemble Furniture: If possible, take apart larger furniture pieces to save space and make them easier to transport. Keep screws and small parts in labeled bags taped to the furniture.

5. Label Everything Clearly

Clearly label each box with its contents and the room it belongs to. You can even create a master inventory list to keep track of your boxes.

6. Keep Essentials Handy

Pack a separate essentials box with items you’ll need right away, such as toiletries, a change of clothes, and important documents. This box should be the last one loaded and the first one unloaded so you can access it immediately.

By following these expert tips, you can streamline the process and make your move as smooth as possible. If you need any assistance or would like to learn more about our moving services, don’t hesitate to reach out. Happy packing!
